Shadow Monster Emporium
During second year we were given the oppurtunity to experiment with technology we may have taken an interest in, but not neccesarily had the chance to use in any of our previous projects. Enter: Skeleton tracking via the kinect sensor.
The project started off as an attempt to completely cover a user's skeleton with 3D animated components using the kinect's ability to determine a player's skeleton using its sensor. Unfortunately after intensive research - and the unfortunate restriction of needing to execute the project on a Mac or Arduino - I found it would be impossible to use the correct libraries for the project.
However, the project was given new life by the ability to harness the kinect's average point tracking system. By establishing a set distance from the sensor it became possible to overlay a 3D model on a user's face. To an extent this achieved a similar end result but only on the face and not the full body.
The Project In Brief
This project required a kickstarter styled informative pitch video to accompany the code. Both of these can be found in the complete pack provided below, please bear in mind that the code for the average-point tracking will require a Microsoft Kinect to be plugged in to your computer via USB to execute. Otherwise you can find images of the development of this project accompanying the download in a separate folder, or you can see the project in action in the completed pitch video.
